Iran fired a barrage of ballistic missiles at central Tel Aviv Friday. The strikes injured 34. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said Iran had “crossed a red line” by firing missiles at populated civilian areas in Israel. Tehran launched fewer than 100 surface-to-surface missiles in two waves, and most of them were intercepted, Israel’s military said.
Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei earlier said Israel “should expect severe punishment” for Israel’s wide-ranging attack on the country’s nuclear program and military leadership. In waves of strikes that began early Friday local time and continued through the day, Israel killed the head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corpsand struck dozens of targets, pushing the region into a new conflict with uncertain consequences.
President Trump told The Wall Street Journal on Friday that he was aware of Israel’s plans to attack Iran: “Heads-up? It wasn’t a heads-up. It was, we know what’s going on.” Earlier, he urged Iran’s leadership to make a deal “before there is nothing left.”
